Švehlová, Veronika ; Halamka, Tomáš (advisor) ; Franěk, Jakub (referee)
The diploma thesis entitled The Political Thought of Czechoslovak Dissidents in the Years 1977 - 1993 examines the political thought of three representatives of Czechoslovak dissent, Rudolf Battek, Václav Havel and Václav Benda. The main aim is to find out whether the Czechoslovak dissent included political thinking and came up with its own constructive theories on the ideal state system or whether it was limited to criticism of the contemporary regime. In terms of methodology, the thesis works with textual analysis of primary sources of three selected dissidents. Based on the textual analysis, it concludes by using a comparative method to compare and integrate the political thought of the selected dissidents with a focus on a better or ideal arrangement of the future state. The thesis concludes that the analyzed representatives of Czechoslovak dissent, in addition to criticizing the regime, also focused on political thinking and searched for a future state organization. Political thought and theories of a successful state were not their primary concern and do not represent a systematic positive theory. Their political thinking was based on their overall philosophical ideas and the context of their critique of the communist regime in contemporary Czechoslovakia. They do not call their ideas...

The thesis titled "Media image of Václav Havel in the Quality and Tabloid Press" analyzes and interprets selected texts about the first Czech President Václav Havel in quality (Mladá fronta DNES) and tabloid (Blesk) press during a selected period. The aim of this thesis is to answer research questions as how the selected press informed about V. Havel during the selected periods, what image of V. Havel was created in the selected press during the selected period, and whether quality press experienced tabloidization. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part describes the characteristics of quality and tabloid press and the process of tabloidization. It also introduces theoretical concepts that this thesis is based on, such as agenda-setting, gatekeeping, and social construction of reality. The practical part introduces the analysis method, followed by its procedure and results. Quantitative content analysis showed that more information about V. Havel was reported in the selected serious daily newspaper Mladá fronta DNES than in the selected tabloid daily newspaper Blesk. The explanation for this phenomenon may be that quality press...
Sametová revoluce v dnešním kurikulu základní školy
NEKOLOVÁ, Lucie
The subject of this thesis was the Velvet Revolution in the contemporary Czech primary school curriculum. I dealt with the analysis of textbooks of history and civics and their subsequent comparison in regard to their approach to the topic of the Velvet Revolution. In the theoretical part, I focused on the objective analysis of the Velvet Revolution and events that preceded the revolution as well as those that accompanied the emergence of a new democratic Czechoslovakia. Nor did I neglect to include the notable personalities of this period and oppositional activities connected with the Velvet Revolution. In the practical part I proceeded to carry out an analysis of textbooks. For each subject I chose textbooks from three publishers. First, I did a comprehensive analysis of the textbooks and then dealt with the Velvet Revolution. In history classes, students only study this subject in the 9th grade. Therefore, I exclusively analyzed these textbooks. History textbooks accord the topic a different number of pages as well as an unequal number of accompanying images. Also, information varies about the key figures associated with the Velvet Revolution. Civics textbooks do not contain a separate chapter dealing with this topic. I had to look at the textbooks for the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth grade, and search for the information associated with the period. The information presented to students varies from grade to grade and by publisher. Finally, I carried out a comparison of the textbooks of civics and history.
Václav Havel in Czech News Agency reports after 2011
Svobodová, Věra ; Trunečková, Ludmila (advisor) ; Köpplová, Barbara (referee)
This diploma thesis maps the media interest in former president Václav Havel by the Czech News Agency during the 10 years following his death in December 2011. It focuses not only on the number of reports, but also compares the individual years with regard to what events influence the number of reports that mention the former president. Using full-text searches in the Czech News Agency's Infobank, metadata codes used by the agency to classify news, and quantitative content analysis with the addition of evaluative elements, the paper tracks which topics most frequently appear in the agency's text service in connection with Václav Havel, whether the president is the main actor in the news, or what the tonality of news texts is in relation to him. The theoretical part defines the basic concepts and theories related to the social and media construction of reality, media image and media logic. The contextual part introduces in rough outlines the personality of Václav Havel. The methodological part deals with the specifics of the news text service offered by Czech News Agency and presents the research methods used. The research part presents the results of the analysis. These show that the number of news items mentioning Havel does not tend to decrease over time, but responds to events in society. The...
